Request AppointmentHow Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment used to align your teeth and bite. This treatment uses clear, removable aligners as opposed to fixed metal brackets and wires like traditional braces.
Invisalign aligners are custom-made based on your teeth. When you wear your aligners, gentle pressure helps move your teeth to their intended position. Typically, we recommend wearing your aligners for at least 22 hours a day to achieve the results you want.
Invisalign: A Personalized Orthodontic Plan
Your Invisalign journey is customized for your unique teeth. We’ll start the process with a consultation to cover the basics before customizing and fitting your aligners. We’ll schedule regular follow-ups to update your aligners as your teeth shift into place.
Patients typically start to see noticeable improvements after wearing their aligners for just a few weeks, though the full treatment course takes 6 months or more.
Invisalign Consultation
A consultation is an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the process and what to expect from the journey. We’ll determine if Invisalign is the right fit for your budget and goals or if another orthodontic treatment would be more beneficial for your teeth.
The Roadmap to Smile Success
After deciding that Invisalign is the best course of action to correct your bite and align your teeth, we’ll scan your teeth to create a detailed 3D image. The 3D image will be sent off to a lab to design your custom aligners.
Once your aligners are ready, they will be sent to our office, and your dentist will call you to schedule a fitting.
Fitting Your Aligners
Your dentist will fit your aligners onto your teeth and assess whether any adjustments are needed. The specialized plastic material is designed for your comfort, but as with any change, it takes a little time to get used to.
At this time, we’ll go over wear and care instructions and answer any questions you have.
Following Up to Monitor Progress
Every 6–8 weeks, we’ll schedule a follow-up appointment to check that your teeth are shifting properly and give you your next set of aligners to wear.
When switching aligners, you may notice your teeth become more sensitive due to the change in pressure. This is normal and should only last a few days.
Tips for Taking Care of Your Aligners
When your Invisalign aligners are taken care of, so are your teeth. We want to help you achieve the smile you’ve always envisioned and discuss wear and care instructions during your fitting appointment.
Following these tips can help:
- Rinse food particles out of your mouth before putting your aligners in
- Remove your aligners when you eat or drink anything other than water
- Place your aligners in their protective case when they’re not in your mouth
- Gently brush your aligners with a soft toothbrush
